Sometimes paintings start with paint remaining on the palette. So it was here; the underpainting peeks through the underlying shapes revealed and then hidden. The brushwork is all about the energy of the mark made by scraping through to the underpainting layer more than once. Like a visual walk through the weeds and wild flowers, all reaching upward to the sun. I have walked the fields next to our home and was influenced by the colors near sunset.
